They are currently working on a new Jim Henson exhibit that will open in 2015, which will make this place even better. View best museums in United States Save museum Center For Puppetry Arts and its collection Source The Center for Puppetry Arts, located in Atlanta, is the United States' largest organization dedicated to the art form of puppetry. One of the best parts of this museum is that you are allowed to take pictures throughout (no flash, of course). Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy are on display (probably the highlight of the whole experience). You can see a number of the masks from the Broadway play, The Lion King, as well as a small exhibit dedicated to Jim Henson. The second section is smaller, but it has interesting displays. Some of the highlights include puppets from the movies The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth. It wouldn't surprise me if a few kids walked out of there with material for some real nightmares. Many of them were actually quite frightening and creepy. It's fascinating to see all the different puppet designs. These may not be overly exciting for children (many are just behind glass), but there are a number of hands-on exhibits (one involves moving a giant praying mantis). The first features dozens of different international puppets. The museum is split into two different sections. We didn't stay for the Puppet Show, but there was plenty to explore for the 45 minutes we were there. It is an easy walk from the MARTA Arts Center station. ![]() The Center for Puppetry Arts is a little out of the way, but it's worth the short trip. ![]()
